Any
person who has been walking in hills or mountains in the past will
feel comfortable. Also those who practice aerobic sports on a
regular basis and are reasonably fit. This category includes long
waling days and perhaps shorter but more demanding walks, such as
a short ice-hike like the Viedma Ice Trek, or several day hikes
linked with campsites, there is no technical difficulty but the
camping and walking combined day after day make it a bit more
demanding.
The trails are generally easy to follow, and well marked.
Long walk from 5 to 10 hours.
Use of porters or pack-horses from general equipment, food, etc..
hikers will have to carry day packs only.
Moderate to big elevation gain (400 a 600 mts.)
Lodging in Hosterías /Hotels/lodges or campsites.

| Day 1:
Upon your arrival to El
Chaltén, a Fitz Roy Expediciones guide will meet you and plan
the activities for the following days. Accommodation in Hotel/Lodge.
Day 2: Full
day trek. In the morning, we hike up Blanco River valley,
passing through Piedras Blancas Glacier’s lookout, Fitz Roy’s
base-camp, and Lake De Los Tres. After lunch, we walk to Cerro
Torre’s base-camp (Camp Thorwood) nestled in a forest near to
Lake Torre, going through Madre and Hija lagoons, and the Fitz
Roy River valley. Horses will do the transport of general and
personal equipment. We will overnight al campsite Thorwood.
Day 3: Full
ice-trekking day. In the morning, we will cross a Tyrolean rope
over Fitz Roy River and walk along the lateral moraine that
surrounds Lake Torre. After the hike up through a wild
Nothofagus forest, we will go down on the glacier and get closer
to Cerro Torre, feeling the majestic size of its south face. For
this activity, we will use crampons and the necessary security
equipment. In the afternoon, we will go back to our campsite,
where we will spend the night again.
Day 4: We
will return to El Chaltén after an optional trek to Pliegue
Tumbado peak. The decision to go back using this path will be
taken between the guide and the clients, according to the
weather conditions and the physical condition of the group.
