These programs provide the opportunity to enjoy activities from medium to long term, and from low to high diffi culty and physical demand. All programs will introduce in the fl ora, fauna, history, geography and glaciology of the area visited.

It is possible to combine camping and walking with the activities offered at our exclusive Adventure Camp. Enjoy the classic walks plus a chance to bike, ride or canoe in Patagonia. The itinerary starts on the shores of Rio de las Vueltas in our adventure Camp. You will walk to Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre and get a chance to walk on a glacier and even practice some basic ice-climbing, also keep trekking to other less-known areas of the National Park, and have a grand finale climbing to Paso del Viento, and witness the vast Southern Patagonian Ice.

This type of trek requires regular sport or activity, previous walking experience over all types of terrain. For those who feel poor on previous experience, training prior to the trek  is greatly encouraged. Trails can often be hard to follow or even inexistent, the party may have to move over unstable moraines, scree slopes, snow, and bushes.  Normally the treks include one or more high passes where the weather can be very harsh. Good mountain clothing is a must.
A special note on the Torre ice Hike hat we include in this category because even though it is a single day activity, starting and ending in El Chalten it is a very long 12 hour day.

Long walks from 6 to 10 hours
Use of porters or pack horses for the bulk of equipment,, Hikers carry good size day packs.
In some stages of the program it is required to carry heavier rucksacks, with personal items such as clothing sleeping bag, mat, and other personal items.(additional porters may be hired)
Moderate to big elevation gain (400 a 1000 mts.)
Lodging in camps or in mountain huts (twin share accommodation). And hotels at some stage.
Moderate physical demand.
Previous training advised.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival to El Chaltén
On arrival in El Chaltén trekkers will be met by a representative of Fitz Roy Expeditions and transferred to our Adventure Camp set on the banks of Rio De Las Vueltas north of town. There are great views of Monte Fitz Roy’s north face from camp. There will be a trip briefi ng before dinner to explain the adventures that await us in the days ahead. This can be done by a guide or a staff memeber.Dinner and overnight at Adventure Camp.

Day 2 | Fitz Roy Adventure Eco Camp
A menu of options to choose from or time at leisure to relax by the fi re place.
- Mountain Bike (guided or independent biking): The road has little traffi c and it a good chance to go all the way to the beautifully set Lago del Desierto-Hiking: There is a magnifi cent hike up the Loma del Diablo, making it to the ridge or all the way to the summit (1800 mts), the climb to the summit can only be done if the guide decides to do it according to present conditions.
- Canoeing. River guides and the adequate equipment are available to explore a couple of kilometres of Rio d las Vueltas, and luckily do so with Mt. Fitz Roy in the skyline.

Day 3 | Fitz Roy Base Camp – Cerro Torre Base Camp
After breakfast a short drive brings us to the trailhead. We ascend gradually all morning along the Rio Blanco to the base camp of the same name.We ascend more steeply to Laguna De Los Tres where we will have close-up views of several of the routes used to climb Fitz Roy, weather permitting. This afternoon’s walk is mostly downhill, with some sections of fl at trail, through the valley of Lagunas Madre e Hija, to Thorwood Base Camp at the edge of Lago Torre.

Day 4 | Ice Trek on Grande Glacier
Today’s walk at the top of the glacier is an experience not to be forgotten. We begin with a crossing of the Fitz Roy River by a Tyrolean traverse, and then trek through a native beech forest and along the glacial moraine. We descend to the edge of the ice, where we strap on our crampons. We’ll spend several hours walking on the ice, with Cerro Torre’s spectacular South Face rising directly above us. We will provide all necessary technical equipment for our glacier hike. There are some easy, introductory ice climbs which the guide will assist all interested trekkers in tackling. We return to Thorwood B.C. for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 | Laguna Toro
After breakfast we again cross the river by Tyrolean traverse and begin the long ascent to Paso De Las Agachonas. As we go higher, the views of the surrounding peaks get ever more dramatic. Once across the pass we descend into the Rio Tunel Valley, with occasional views of tomorrow’s destination, El Paso Del Viento, Windy Pass. Upon reaching Rio Tunel, we follow it west to our camp just below Laguna Toro. This will be our camp for two nights, nicely protected in a small beech grove near tree line.

Day 6 | Paso del viento – Patagonian Ice Cap viewpoint
After bordering the lagoon and across the Rio Toro Tunnel, we begin the journey towards the Windward Passage, a gateway to Southern Ice. During the ascent of the 900 meter drop and swivel cross a glacier high. The splendid views all the way will be crowned by a fabulous panoramic view of the Southern Ice. Day 7 | Return To El Chaltén
Today’s hike back to El Chaltén is long, but easy in comparison to yesterday’s visit to the windy Pass. The descend to town is gradual and easy.

Note / Observations
The fi rst day the passengers will carry their lunch box and only their personal things like sleeping bags and pads (which can be brought or rented). The llamas will carry food and general equipment such as tents, rope and harness. The second day passengers should bear part of the general gear as well as personal equipment. Load to be carried about from day 2: 16 to 20 kilos. Recommended to bring warm sleeping bag and personal gear, but lightweight minimized. This journey takes place in an inhospitable region. There will be no dining tents, tables or benches, Upon returning from the trip we recommend spending the night in El Chalten. We see this so convenient to have a well earned rest after a long trek. This trip can be combined with the Glacier Trekking Tower or any other program that passes the Fitzroy River Valley, in which case, the Day 1 of the program begins at the base camp of Laguna Tower Thorwood. The itinerary can be modifi ed and should be considered as a guide. External factors or weather conditions can change daily plans, which is up to the Guide.
