Southern
Patagonia is still today quite unexplored and it offers real
wilderness. Nature at it’s best, the wild mountains, rough
weather, and desolate landscapes rule the land. Strong westerly
winds blow today as they did when the first explorers and
climbers arrived not long ago, few things have changed, and the
feeling of adventure has certainly survived.
Unique beauty, unforgettable scenery like Mount Fitz Roy and
Cerro Torre, the huge plateaux of the Ice Field, the amazing
calving glaciers and the endless barren steppes, that’s what
Patagonia is made of.
Our
love for nature makes us believe that trekking is one of the
best ways to travel through Patagonia.
Our experience in the area, our deep knowledge of the region and
our know-how in the business, qualify us to offer the best
trekking opportunities of Patagonia. |

EL
CALAFATE - EL CHALTEN
Los
Glaciares National Park |
|
Winter
is a special moment in southern Patagonia. The weather
near El Chaltén and El Calafate is not as harsh as
everyone thinks. It is cold, but the dryness makes it
easier to deal with. Westerly winds almost disappear and
gentle eastern breezes are common during winter. In
addition, all the drama of the famous Patagonian gales
gives place to a much quieter winter atmosphere.
Photographers are rewarded with low sun and winter light:
snow covered trees, frozen lakes, empty landscapes and
beautiful skies, make an excellent blend of subjects to
shoot. Even though days are shorter, visitors can still
enjoy most of the hikes, and as a bonus, the majority of
the trails are deserted, so the whole national park is
waiting for us to discover it. It is important to mention
that we have a fleet of 4x4 vehicles to get to most
places, even during snowstorms. Vehicles and guides have
permanent radio-contact.
Our mountain guides live in the mountains, they are well
trained in winter matters. All the necessary technical
gear to enjoy the snow is available, such as four season
tents, snow-shoes and climbing equipment. Being fond of
this area, we find snow is a gift rather than an obstacle. |

Patagonian
Ice Field Expedition
(El Chaltén - Estancia Cristina) |
|
 |
For a longer
expedition on the Southern Patagonia Ice-Cap this
is the definite option. Many modern-day explorers
still find it a challenge to undertake any kind of
voyage in the Ice-Cap. We offer you the chance to
follow the tracks of few others, or better still
make your own, test your spirit during this
expedition on the biggest mass of Ice outside
Polar areas.
Retrace the steps of some history's best-know
explorers like Sir Eric Shipton, Bill Tilman and
others. Participants will learn the necessary
skills to survive and travel in this type of
terrain. Randonne-skis are used as means of
transportation, sled-hauling, crevasse rescue and
winter skills are needed to move safely and
efficiently on the Ice-Field, usually most of
these techniques are only needed during Polar
Exploration, during this expedition we will
practice and master them. |

Most
of our programs require physical activity. We
think very carefully about the food we offer to
our clients. Thinking about their requirements and
particular needs. We generally serve 4 meals a day,
during the trekking programs that have pack-horses
or porters.
American type Breakfast –
to provide the necessary energy to start the day.
Lunch will typically include
fruits, granola, sweets and sandwiches –
all of high energetic content and rapid digestion,
to have “on the go”.
For Tea time, usually back at
camp, we serve coffee, tea, cheese, cold meats,
and cookies – to recuperate some calories lost
during the day and soothe your tired body.
We finish the day with a three course
dinner high in carbohydrate
and protein.
During more technical expeditions, where food and
equipment are carried in backpacks and by porters,
the food is still served four times a day, but in
rations previously packed and following an
expedition style type of menu, high in energetic
content and easier on our backs.
Breakfast is made of oatmeal or muesli,
chocolate, alfajores,
hot chocolate, coffee, tea.
Lunch is made of granola's, cheese and
salamis, crackers, chocolates
and juices.
Dinner offers soups, a rice or pasta
based meal with protein,
and something sweet as a dessert.
All day long, we offer a mix of nuts and
dried fruits to gives busts
of energy when needed.
