DAY
01 : PUNTA ARENAS – USHUAIA
Departure
by regular line bus at 09:00 a.m. from the bus
station to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego which is
located in argentinian territory. There we will
enjoy different landscapes. Arrival to Ushuaia
at approximately 19:30 p.m. Reception and
transfer to lodging. The rest of the day is free
for personal activities.
DAY
02 :
USHUAIA
CITY TOUR
AND
WATCHING
TOUR OF
CASTORES
Breakfast.
Ushuaia, capital of Tierra del Fuego, is
located at the coast of the Beagle Channel
surrounded by Le Martial Mountainsntains that
offers this unique combination of mountains,
sea, glaciers and forest in Argentina.
Departing from Maipú avenue, towards the
Footbridge Luis Pedro Fique, we will cross this
narrow pas that ends at La Mission Neiboghood,
area chosen by the first white men settled down
in Ushuaia. Other districts to visit will be the
Brown and Solier, built by the first inmmigrants
at the beggining of the 20th century. During the
tour we will be able to observe old houses
pertaining to the first fuegian families like
Bebans, Pastorizas, Cangas, Fiques, Salomons,
Ramos and the Provincial Legislature, old
Government's house. Also we will be able to
observe the contrast of the incredible growth
produced by the arrival of new settlers during
the 80's. In our journey we will include the
transfer to the base of the chairlift at the Le
Martial glacier that will allow us to enjoy from
the height, as we move away of the city, the
gorgeous landscape. If the climatic conditions
allow it a long walk in the zone of the base of
the chairlift will be able to be done.
Our return will be through the Leandro N. Alem
avenue, and will continue at the Maritim Museum
and Old Prison of Ushuaia, after a brief visit
we will go to the End of the World Museum, where
part of the fueguian past is apexhibited.
Cadena Sampaio ( Sampaio mountain range), then
we will head for Lago Roca zone traveling a
narrow path which allows us to see all the
species of the fuegian flora. Upon arrival to
the lake, we will start our first walk bordering
this lake and the natural outlet of Lake
Lapataia. From here the view of Cerro Condor is
the outstanding spot, through its peaks passes
the border of the Republic Chile. We will then
continue towards Lapataia Bay, we will see
Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) and will do two
optional walks. The first one is to Laguna Negra
(Black Lagoon), Which is an important peat bed
in formation and the second, Dique de Castores (
Beavers’ Damm) which path leads us directly to
Bahía Lapataia where Route Nº3 ends. Return to
Ushuaia. Lodging.
DAY
03 : LAGOS ESCONDIDO Y FAGNANO
(6 HOURS AND HALF)
Breakfast.
Deaprting
from Ushuaia and again on the National route #3 (Pan-American)
towards the north of the island, to reach the Fuegian Andes
through valleys covered by peat bogs.
We will cross the Carbajal, the Huskies, Tierra Mayor and Las
Cotorras valleys, where it is possible, during the winter to
practice the croos-country ski style. The next point of the tour
will be the Garibaldi Pass (450 mts over the sea level), which we
will use cross the Mountain range of the Andes, with the beautiful
view of the Lakes Escondido and Fagnano. From here we will start
the way down to the other side of the Andes and will stop at
Petrel "hosteria" besides the Escondido Lake, after a short stop
will continue to the sawmills area, specifically to the Martinez
sawmill ( out of operation this days ), at the coast of Fagnano
lake and after visiting the Fagnano lake we will go back to Las
Cotorras valley to taste the typical fueguian lamb barbecue.
DAY
04 : VISIT TO
ESTANCIA HARBERTON WITH PENGUIN COLONY
The Catamaran
departs from the touristic pier with Southeastern direction,
sailing first in the Ushuaia Bay and with the frame of the capital
of Tierra del Fuego to our backs. Already in the middle of the
Beagle Channel, we will be with the archipelago where the Alicia
is inhabited by an important colony of imperial cormorants. During
the tour we will have the opportunity to observe the majestic
Black Eyebrow Albatross, as well as Scuas and different kind of
gulls, without forgetting the funny steamer ducks or Alakush.
Our navigation continues and we now went to the area of the Les
Eclaireurs Archipelago. Here we visit the Seal 's Island to watch
the two species of sea lions, typical of the channel (one and two
hairs). On another islands a lighthouse was built and it has the
same name as teh archipelago. It was indeed in this zone where
Cruise Mte. Cervantes to sank in 1930.
Towards the east we will sail to Almanza Port (Argentina) and Port
in front of Williams Port (Chile) to enter later in the area of
the Mackinlay Pass to go directly to the Martillo Island to watch
the elegant magellanic penguins.
The excursion continues now towards the zone of Harberton
"estancia" where we will enjoy a short walk organized through this
historical settlement. Once the walk is finished, we embark again
to initiate our navigation back to Ushuaia sailing through the
Guaraní Pass, passing by Almanza Port where some habitants are
dedicated to the fishing of the salmónidos and king crab hunt.
Return to Ushuaia and Lodging.
DAY
05 : AREA LA PATAIA – PUERTO ALMANZA ( ALMANZA
PORT), PASO GUARANÍ AND PINGüINERA (PENGUIN
SITE)
Breakfast.
Journey starts at 09:00 a.m. from Ushuaia headed
west through National Route Nº3 (Panamericana
– Last 23 km). We’ll pass through Valle del
Río Pipo ( Río Pipo Valley) between Monte
Susana and Bridges where we’ll find the front
of Tierra del Fuego National Park, Lapataia,
Lago Roca and Laguna Negra, combining bus and
walks through path where we’ll be able to
enjoy nature’s wonders. We finish our journey
at Lapataia Bay and return to Ushuaia. Arrival
at 13:30 p.m.
At
15:30 p.m. we leave Ushuaia on a 5 and a half-hour
excursion through National Route Nº3 and then
through Route J, after approximately one hour
and a quarter, we’ll see a road surrounding by
forest and mountains. Afterwards we will reach
Puerto Almanza, a small local fishermen’s site
above the coast of the Beagle Channel. There we’ll
board Lanin launch, a tiny cruiser for 12
passengers and we’ll sail Paso Guarani which
is located on the south coast of Isla Grande,
Tierra del Fuego and the coast of Gable Island.
During the navigation we’ll be able to see
small barren islands and rocks where sea birds
can be seen. Then we’ll reach Isla Martillo
where there is a Magellanic Penguin colony,
which can be seen from a very short distance
thanks to the type of boat. Return to Ushuaia.

06 : USHUAIA – PUNTA ARENAS
Breakfast.
Departure in the morning on a regular bus line
to Punta Arenas, arriving in the afternoon.
