USHUAIA AT YOUR REACH
(3 days / 2 nights)

DAY 01 : PUNTA ARENAS – USHUAIA

Departure by regular line bus at 07:00 a.m. from the bus station to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego which is located in argentinian territory. There we will enjoy different landscapes. Arrival to Ushuaia at approximately 17:30 p.m. Reception and transfer to lodging. The rest of the day is free for personal activities.

 

DAY 02 : CANAL BEAGLE Y PARQUE NACIONAL TIERRA DEL FUEGO – USHUAIA

Breakfast. At 9:30 a.m. 3-hour tour on board M/B Barracuda, a historical vessel which in the 50’s used to travel to Asunción, Paraguay, and in 1975 arrived to the Beagle Channel where it became the first tour vessel of Tierra del Fuego. It has been provided with a new engine and its equipment has been modernized although its external appearance as well as its internal appearance hasn’t been modified, thus keeping its classical style.

The tour starts from the touristy dock sailing the wide Ushuaia bay until we reach the Beagle Channel through Paso Chico. There we will visit the Bridges Islands stoping at some of these islands to watch cormorant colonies as well as those of sea wolves. During the navigation which goes on towards the east, it is possible to enjoy the wonders of the Beagle Channel and the mountains that surround it and it is also possible to be able to see a number od different sea bird species like skuas, seagulls, albatross, petrels, ducks, etc. Then we will reach Eclaireurs’ Lighthouse, where the passengers listen in awe to the story of the north coast of the channel, thus being able to enjoy the typical flora and some ancient remains like Estancia Túnel ( Tunnel Farm), moment which is used to visit the sweet shop aboard or to visit the control room.

Journey to Tierra del Fuego National Park ( approximately 4 hours and a half) the first place to see will be La Ensenada (The Cove) from where we will be able to see the Isla Redonda (Round Island) and above the coast of the Beagle Channel you will se the snow capped mountains of Cadena Sampaio ( Sampaio mountain range), then we will head for Lago Rocca zone traveling a narrow path which allows us to see all the species of the fuegian flora. Upon arrival to the lake, we will start our first walk bordering this lake and the natural outlet of Lake Lapataia. From here the view of Cerro Condor is the outstanding spot, through its peaks passes the border of the Republic Chile. We will then continue towards Lapataia Bay, we will see Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) and will do two optional walks. The first one is to Laguna Negra /Black Lagoon), Which is an important peat bed in formation and the second, Dique de Castores ( Beavers’ Damm) which path leads us directly to Bahía Lapataia where Route Nº3 ends. Return to Ushuaia. Lodging.

 

DAY 03 : USHUAIA – PUNTA ARENAS
Breakfast. Departure in the morning on a regula bus line to Punta Arenas, arriving in the afternoon.                                                  END OF SERVICES

Breakfast. The 7-hour journey begins starting from Ushuaia at 08:30 a.m. Through National Route Nº3 we arrive at Valle de Tierra Mayor, where the trekking through the woods of Valle de Tierra Mayor (Major Earth Valley), winter centers, lagoons with beaver’s dams and, if luck may have it, we will see guanacos. We continue climbing till we reach a glacier age lagoon located at the foot of the eastern glacier of Monte Alvear. At the end of the lagoon there are deep ice caves with cracks in them which reach the surface of the glacier. There we’ll have lunch admiring the small icebergs floating in the lagoon and later on we return.

DAY 04 : VISIT TO ESTANCIA REMOLINO ( WHIRLWIND FARM)

Breakfast. At 09:00 a.m. departure starting an 8-hour-excursion. This farm which belonged to the Lawrence family, settlers in Tierra del Fuego, is at a 3-hour-drive from Ushuaia. We’ll start from Route Nº3 towards the east where Rancho Hambre is located, where we’ll take route J that will lead us to Estancia Remolino. During the journey, we’ll see Río Lashifarsaj on the side of the road, and the beautiful landscape of the fuegian forest. When we reach Puerto Almanza the route continues to border the cosat of the Beagle Channel making it much easier and gratifying to see its rich avian fauna. Finally, we reach the farm where its current occupants will show us the old facilities now transformed into a little museum. Then we’ll start an approximately 1-hour-walk to see the local flora and fauna. We return to the farm to have lunch and afterwards we’ll take a guided tour to the archaeological excavations which are being made in the area to investigate about the Yamana natives, former inhabitants of the coast of the Beagle Channel. After listening to these experts’ interesting information on the subject we return to Ushuaia.

 

DAY 5 : USHUAIA – PUNTA ARENAS

We’ll start from Route Nº3 towards the east where Rancho Hambre is located, where we’ll take route J that will lead us to Estancia Remolino. DAY 05 : AREA LA PATAIA – PUERTO ALMANZA ( ALMANZA PORT), PASO GUARANÍ AND PINGüINERA (PENGUIN SITE)

Breakfast. Journey starts at 09:00 a.m. from Ushuaia headed west through National Route Nº3 (Panamericana – Last 23 km). We’ll pass through Valle del Río Pipo ( Río Pipo Valley) between Monte Susana and Bridges where we’ll find the front of Tierra del Fuego National Park, Lapataia, Lago Roca and Laguna Negra, combining bus and walks through path where we’ll be able to enjoy nature’s wonders. We finish our journey at Lapataia Bay and return to Ushuaia. Arrival at 13:30 p.m.

At 15:30 p.m. we leave Ushuaia on a 5 and a half-hour excursion through National Route Nº3 and then through Route J, after approximately one hour and a quarter, we’ll see a road surrounding by forest and mountains. Afterwards we will reach Puerto Almanza, a small local fishermen’s site above the coast of the Beagle Channel. There we’ll board Lanin launch, a tiny cruiser for 12 passengers and we’ll sail Paso Guarani which is located on the south coast of Isla Grande, Tierra del Fuego and the coast of Gable Island. During the navigation we’ll be able to see small barren islands and rocks where sea birds can be seen. Then we’ll reach Isla Martillo where there is a Magellanic Penguin colony, which can be seen from a very short distance thanks to the type of boat. Return to Ushuaia. Lodging.

 

DAY 06 : USHUAIA – PUNTA ARENAS
Breakfast. Departure in the morning on a regular bus line to Punta Arenas, arriving in the afternoon.

Journey to Tierra del Fuego National Park ( approximately 4 hours and a half) the first place to see will be La Ensenada (The Cove) from where we will be able to see the Isla Redonda (Round Island) and above the coast of the Beagle Channel you will se the snow capped mountains of Cadena Sampaio ( Sampaio mountain range), then we will head for Lago Roca zone traveling a narrow path which allows us to see all the species of the fuegian flora. Upon arrival to the lake, we will start our first walk bordering this lake and the natural outlet of Lake Lapataia. From here the view of Cerro Condor is the outstanding spot, through its peaks passes the border of the Republic Chile. We will then continue towards Lapataia Bay, we will see Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) and will do two optional walks. The first one is to Laguna Negra (Black Lagoon), Which is an important peat bed in formation and the second, Dique de Castores ( Beavers’ Damm) which path leads us directly to Bahía Lapataia where Route Nº3 ends. Return to Ushuaia. Lodging.
 

DAY 03 : LAGUNA DE HIELO (ICE LAGOON) AND CUEVAS DEL ALVEAR (ALVEAR CAVES)

Breakfast. The 7-hour journey begins starting from Ushuaia at 08:30 a.m. Through National Route Nº3 we arrive at Valle de Tierra Mayor, where the trekking through the woods of Valle de Tierra Mayor (Major Earth Valley), winter centers, lagoons with beaver’s dams and, if luck may have it, we will see guanacos. We continue climbing till we reach a glacier age lagoon located at the foot of the eastern glacier of Monte Alvear. At the end of the lagoon there are deep ice caves with cracks in them which reach the surface of the glacier. There we’ll have lunch admiring the small icebergs floating in the lagoon and later on we return.

 

DAY 04 : CERRO GUANACO (GUANACO HILL)

Breakfast at 09:00 a.m. Then starts a 7-hours journey from Ushuaia. We take National Rout Nº3 heading for Lago Roca from where we will start the path together with the one which leads to milestone Nº21. To the right starts the steep climb bordering a stream amidst a typical fuegian forest which ends at 400 meters above sea level. We’ll find ourselves above a high valley from which we’ll continue north to get an incomparable view of Lago Roca, Bahía Yendegaia, and Cordillera Darwin in Chile. We will carry on south to place ourselves at approximately 600 meters above sea level watching the Beagle Channel, the Chilean Amberino and Hoste Island and Murray Channel. Length of walk : 8km. Demanding activity. Return to Ushuaia. Lodging.

 

DAY 05 : AREA LA PATAIA – PUERTO ALMANZA ( ALMANZA PORT), PASO GUARANÍ AND PINGüINERA (PENGUIN SITE)

Breakfast. Journey starts at 09:00 a.m. from Ushuaia headed west through National Route Nº3 (Panamericana – Last 23 km). We’ll pass through Valle del Río Pipo ( Río Pipo Valley) between Monte Susana and Bridges where we’ll find the front of Tierra del Fuego National Park, Lapataia, Lago Roca and Laguna Negra, combining bus and walks through path where we’ll be able to enjoy nature’s wonders. We finish our journey at Lapataia Bay and return to Ushuaia. Arrival at 13:30 p.m.

At 15:30 p.m. we leave Ushuaia on a 5 and a half-hour excursion through National Route Nº3 and then through Route J, after approximately one hour and a quarter, we’ll see a road surrounding by forest and mountains. Afterwards we will reach Puerto Almanza, a small local fishermen’s site above the coast of the Beagle Channel. There we’ll board Lanin launch, a tiny cruiser for 12 passengers and we’ll sail Paso Guarani which is located on the south coast of Isla Grande, Tierra del Fuego and the coast of Gable Island. During the navigation we’ll be able to see small barren islands and rocks where sea birds can be seen. Then we’ll reach Isla Martillo where there is a Magellanic Penguin colony, which can be seen from a very short distance thanks to the type of boat. Return to Ushuaia. Lodging.

 

DAY 06 : USHUAIA – PUNTA ARENAS
Breakfast. Departure in the morning on a regular bus line to Punta Arenas, arriving in the afternoon.
